Following last year’s critically acclaimed release ‘Overnight/Love Radar’, Hectix returns to the Beta block with three electrifying reminders of why Russia is currently the undisputed premier hotbed of young drum & bass talent.
‘I Feel You’ launches with a soft, melodic sense of false security. With rainbow-rave blasts of unadulterated melodic vibrancy, it’s euphoric enough to get every member of your floor reaching for their lighters and raise them aloft. Even those who don’t own a lighter. Then BOOM: in fires one of the most outrageous drops you’ve heard all year. Ravishing, rampant and truly destructive, Hectix’s masterful bass magic is soaked with so much aggression and attitude it could cause riots in heaven. Truly insane.
‘Last Minute’ follows with anthemic glee. The soundtrack to a car chase of the future, the hugged-out synth hook tells a tale of high speed urgency, hinting at the trouble that’s lurking around the corner. Naturally another dose of trademark Hectix bass terror is forced down our ears and your floor will lap up every second. Grizzly, growling and precision produced; balancing this amount of hectic elements while retaining crystal clear sonics is no mean feat but somehow Hectix makes it sound easy.
For one final, switch-flipping hoorah Hectix whisks us off to planets unknown by way of a walloping, trance-informed power-hook. Once again ‘Take Me Away’ is ignited by technicolour synth hooks that weave all manner of sonic spells while the bassline adds a thundering sense of urgency thanks to its pumping delivery. Galvanised by several lead and sub melodies, it’s yet another triumph from this Russian wunderkind.
With more exciting releases in the near future, Hectix schedule is living up to its name. Just remember where you heard him first.
